Established in 2006 in conjunction with the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of NAMARINA. Namarina Youth Dance is a semi-professional dance company to accommodate young talented dancers who want to equalise professional dancer with other common occupation.

To be a professional dance company in Indonesia with classical ballet root, synergistic with Indonesian culture and tradition.

Artistic Director

MAYA TAMARA, LRAD, ARAD

Maya started ballet under her mother, the late Nanny Lubis, at the age of 5. In 1975, Maya acquired “Elementary Certificate” from Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Singapore. A year later, she went to London to further learn classical ballet. For the first two years, she was the student of the late Ruth French – one of the principal dancers of Pavlova Dance Company, and also an examiner of RAD’s Vocational Graded Examinations. Maya had the opportunity to become the assistant of Ms. French, teaching children’s ballet at Marble Arch Primary School in London. At the end of that year. Maya acquired “Intermediate Certificate” RAD and “Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing” with Honours.

In September 1978, Maya was enlisted as a student with The Royal Academy of Dance, London, United Kingdom. She started creating choreographies for numbers performed at campus productions, held every 6 months. She was also chosen as one of four students selected to demonstrate Dance Education Syllabus and Historical Dance in Germany.

In February 1981, Maya acquired “Advanced Certificate” RAD, and in July 1981 she acquired multiple diplomas, among them: LRAD (Teacher’s Diploma), ARAD (Dancer’s Diploma) and AISTD (Teacher’s and Dancer’s Diploma, National Branch ISTD). Maya is the first Indonesian to graduate from The Royal Academy of Dance. In mid 1981, Maya came home to Indonesia to join NAMARINA and was appointed as Artistic Director. She began to create various dance works in ballet and modern jazz. To this day, a great number of her works have been performed.

Resident Choreographers

DINAR KARINA

NAMARINA is Dinar Karina’s second home, where she began to learn ballet at the age of 5. Her talent, along with her passion and dedication toward dancing have put her as the Director of Jazz Department since 1987. She has continued to shoulder the responsibility as ballet and jazz teacher, as well as a choreographer.

In 2006, Namarina Youth Dance (NYD) was established, and Dinar has been trusted as one of its resident choreographers. Although she has created numerous pieces in the past three decades, her works continue to surprise everyone. Her creative force, along with her tireless exploration in searching for new movements and forms by incorporating ballet & jazz traditions with Indonesian dance traditions simply won’t let us have any dull moments.

SUSSI ANDDRI

Sussi Anddri started ballet when she was 9 years old in NAMARINA. In 1996, She was awarded the ARAD (Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance) title for passing Advanced level at the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD). She received her Registered Teachers of RAD (teaching certificate) with Distinction. Sussi joined various workshops and courses locally and internationally to deepen her knowledge in the art of dance.

Her love for dance makes Sussi stay in the art until now. As a Ballet teacher and a Director of Ballet Department NAMARINA, Sussi cares deeply about the next generation of this nation, she believes that the values of ‘art for education’ will make Indonesian children to become a smart, creative, and a great problem solver in their social life.

As choreographer, her works vary from Classical Ballet repertoire to contemporary dance, exploring and emphasizing on the values of human’s life. Some of her notable works for NAMARINA are Hitam Putih (1996), Rhythm of life (2000), Roots in Motion (2001), Les Danseuses (2005) & limapuluhtahun (2006).

Since NYD established in 2006, Sussi was appointed as NYD’s Resident Choreographer. Sussi strongly believe that Indonesian dancers have huge potential and can perform well internationally.

ANDHINI ROSAWIRANTI

Andhini Rosawiranti started her ballet training at the age of 7. Since 2006, she has been dancing with NYD. In 2015, she was appointed as a Resident Choreographer for the company. In addition to her ballet training, she also learned jazz dance, modern dance, hip-hop, Indonesian traditional dance and contemporary. She believes each dance style has its own uniqueness and beauty that can be a source for her inspiration.

She still has two particular dreams; that in the future NYD could have its own dance theater where the company and other fellow Indonesian artists can perform “freely” and that her choreography can be acknowledged nationally as well as internationally. Currently, she also teaches at Namarina Dance Academy and takes a position as Coordinating Instructor of the Jazz Dance Department.

IRNINTA DWITIKA  [ASSOCIATE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR]

Irninta Dwitika’s love for dance began when her primary school teacher introduced Indonesian traditional dances. At the age of 9, she began her formal ballet and jazz training at Namarina Dance Academy and later joined Namarina Youth Dance (NYD) as dancer in 2012. In 2015, Irninta moved to New York City to further pursue her dance education by attending the Independent Study Program at The Ailey School. She then continued her formal dance training at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, UK, and became a member of Transitions Dance Company. Upon Irninta’s return to Indonesia in early 2019; she began to work with Namarina Dance Academy as a teacher and was appointed to become the Associate Artistic Director of NYD.

IRINA P. SUDARSONO  [MANAGING DIRECTOR]

Irina Putri Sudarsono started ballet when she was 6 years old. She has been a dancer with NYD since its first season in 2006. Her passion for dance and performing arts also encouraged her to pursue her Master Degree in Performing Arts Management at 2017 in Milan, Italy. Accordingly, right after completing her study, she works as a Managing Director for NYD, while still dancing with the company. In addition to her roles in the company, she also teaches Jazz Dance at Namarina Dance Academy.
