limapuluhtahun

limapuluhtahun is a piece specially made for NAMARINA 50th anniversary. A Journey. Presented in Namarina Youth Dance 1st season performance in December 2006 and January 2007.

The Beginning (1st Movement); depicting Indonesia in the 50’s. The first step of NAMARINA’s journey in exploring an art form unbeknownst at that time, the world of ballet.

The Growth (2nd Movement); as time passes, NAMARINA keeps growing and taking roots. Ballet and jazz dance is NAMARINA’s form of appreciation to the diverse art forms in the world. With these two styles of dance NAMARINA became an entity that we now know in Indonesian world of art.

The Future (3rd Movement); Indonesian strength is in the richness of its tradition which is beyond any value. It will be wonderful when ballet can integrate with Indonesian culture to form a unique identity that can enrich the world of dance.

SoulSphere of Jakarta

SoulSphere of Jakarta reflects on the history of Jakarta, focusing on the behaviour of the people who live in this capital city of Indonesia. This original work was performed in a unique form and concept which took place at the National Museum of Indonesia. Consists of four acts, this performance depicted a multidimensional time frame between the past, present and future. Having the audience and the dancers on the same floor had brought a new attention and experience for both NYD and the audiences. The intimate relationship was present as there were hardly any gaps between the dancers, audience and all the parties involved in the production. The new experience was influenced by Betawi culture which highly embraces equality and solidarity.

Padu

Padu consists of ‘Tradikal’ and ‘Jalin’; two dance pieces choreographed by two different choreographers. Both depart from the same roots which is Ballet, their exploration is certainly different. These two pieces not only combined several dance traditions, but also three different forms of art; dance, music and visual, all of which are original creations.

Tradition is dynamic in its movement and time frame, manifested in every corner of the world, teaching us about the past, responding to the present time, and welcoming the future. TRADIKAL is a choreography by Dinar Karina, a cross-cultural initiative that incorporates  Ballet, Contemporary and Indonesian traditional dance paving its way towards finding a new form, accompanied by original music to create harmony in life.

The term JALIN means to connect or ‘interwoven’ in the local context, highly inspired by several compositions: Impromptu, Cosmic Vibrations, and most notably the composition called Tenun (composed by Gado-Gado Ensambal) which depicts a process of Tenun making, the Indonesian textile traditions that spread and manifest across the Archipelago from the Bataks (Ulos) to Tenganan Village (Geringsing). Music, Dance, and Visual Arts are inseparable in many traditions around the world; so therefore, exploring its interrelations would enrich and broaden each discipline to develop.

Choreographers: Dinar Karina (Tradikal) & Sussi Anddri (Jalin)

Music: Gado-Gado Ensambal, Los Angeles Guitar Quartet

Visual: Adikara Rachman (Assisted by Bintang Perkasa, Reydo Respati and Dwie Judha Satria)

Lighting: SGS & Donie Debirkud

The Story of Man

November 6th, 2010, Namarina Youth Dance presented their original full length repertoire for the first time. Consists of four Acts; “Man and Nature”, “Age of Reasons”, “The 20th Century” and “In Search of The New Ideals”, this repertoire was danced by NYD Dancers, NYD Apprentice and supported by selected dancers of Namarina Dance Academy and guest dancers. For the last part, this repertoire was presented with live music performance from Rhythm Salad League to fortify the means of searching for “the new ideals”.

Telling a journey of mankind in various styles of dance, from classical ballet, modern to contemporary, this performance depicted human’s behaviour, manifestations, achievements and disasters. Never ending battle between good and bad, in an ever changing world, presented a lengthy drama that can only be resolved by The Last Judgement. Noble characteristics such as patience, love, honesty are always challenged by the bad; greed, cruelty, arrogance and ignorance. The battle of both sides creates many accomplishments as well as harvesting painful misery. This drama keeps appearing in every period of our time. So, are we stubborn creatures that can’t learn from our mistakes, or is it just our fate to keep living in this state until the end of time?
